Massage Idaho Falls: Services

Massage Therapy Idaho Falls
When you are thinking of getting a massage, you might be thinking primarily of duration and price. If you have not yet made massage part of your regular wellness routine, then you may not know that there is much more to consider. There are many different types of massages, and so it can be helpful to know some basic facts in order to decide what is best for you. Generally, you can talk to your massage therapist or the experts at Idaho Falls Massage, and they can discuss your basic medical history with you and help you decide what is best for you and what you hope to get out of your massage experience. A therapeutic massage at your local massage facility will always be all about you and your preferences and needs.
What’s Your Story? A brief health history will help us help you!
Your professional massage therapist will have a few questions for you about your health history. This is primarily to discern if you have one of the few medical issues that could preclude you from safely getting a massage. For example, someone who is on a blood thinning medication, or has a bleeding or clotting disorder may want to consult a doctor before getting a massage. Similarly, someone with very severe or advanced osteoporosis or someone who has current fractures may not be right for some types of massage. Your massage therapist will also want to know what medical concerns you have that may be benefited by massage services. Sports injuries or soft tissue injuries, headaches, joint pain, myofascial pain, anxiety and insomnia, are all examples of issues that could be shared with your massage therapist in order to help you get the best care possible.

What is a massage?

A massage can be gentle or strong pressure, can focus on different parts of the body, and can encompass different approaches and styles. A certified massage therapist is trained in giving massages professionally and safely. He or she will be able to help you get the most out of your healing and relaxing massage.

What are the most popular or common kinds of Massage?

Swedish Massage:
This is the type of massage that most people are thinking of when they think about the word “massage” or when we attempt when giving a friend or partner a massage. If you are sensitive to touch, have lots of tension or pain, or are new to massage and are worried about deeper pressure, a professional Swedish massage may be perfect for you! This is also a favorite for repeat clients who enjoy massage as a form or relaxation and as a special way to pamper themselves. This is one of the most commonly requested massages. It involves long strokes, as well as deep circular movements, gentle kneading, and rhythmic tapping. It is soothing and relaxing and is very beneficial for anxiety and stress relief. It just feels wonderful, and most people come back again and again after experiencing one of our restful Swedish massages!

Deep Tissue Massage:
The name might be a giveaway! Yes, deep tissue massage involves deeper pressure and massage applied to specific areas of concern. This can be intense, and it’s intended to be, as it attempts to reach deeper layers of muscle and tissue. This is the type of technique used to work out “knots” or sore muscles. This really means that your massage therapist will be focusing deep, deliberate strokes into your tense or sore muscles. This could result in superficial soreness following your massage, but the benefits can be phenomenal for many people. For example, someone who has been hard on their body such as athletes, or someone who is recovering from an injury and is using massage alongside physical therapy in the healing process may have great results from this technique. It is also popular with people who simply have very dense tissue, and therefore respond better to the firm, deliberate pressure of deep tissue massage. As with any massage, please communicate with your local massage therapist if the pressure seems too firm or too soft. They can easily adjust their technique to ensure safety and comfort, along with results.

Hot Stone Massage:
Once again, the name tells all. A hot stone massage uses warm, heated stones in addition to the massage therapist’s hands to administer your comforting massage. These stones (usually basalt stones that hold heat well), are placed on different parts of the body, and are also held by the therapist when giving the massage. The warm stones are very soothing and can aid in overall mental and physical relaxation and pain relief. This type of therapeutic technique can also increase blood flow, relax tense muscles, and relieve stress. The goals for a hot stone massage are similar to the ones suited for a Swedish massage. Try them both, and see what works for you!

Trigger Point Massage:
This massage technique is very similar to deep tissue massage in that it can be used to aid in healing after overuse injuries or other types of injuries. They are different however, in that while deep tissue massage uses more traditional methods to work tissue over a large area of the body, trigger point massage focuses on isolated “problem areas” and seek to locate and work on those areas specifically. When administered by a trained and experienced therapist, this type of massage can literally relieve pain or tension in a much larger area than the tight muscle fibers that are being worked on. Sometimes the area of pain relief may not even be adjacent to the spot being focused on!
